JK Rowling became a trend again on social networks for her statements against various users. This time the “Harry Potter” writer responded to a Twitter user who threatened her with a “pipe bomb.”
The 55-year-old bestselling author shared a screenshot of the tweet, now deleted, as evidence of the hate mail she received since expressing her controversial views on gender last year.
“I wish you a very good bomb in the mailbox.”
This was the message from the user who attacked JK Rowling. The celebrity, who also writes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, explained that she received the threatening tweet in response to comments she made last year that were considered transphobic by critics and advocacy groups. “Hundreds of trans activists have threatened to beat me, rape me, murder me and bombard me. I realized that this movement poses no risk to women.”
The author, who is working on her latest book series, also expressed her gratitude to fans who sent her messages of support.
“I have to go back to my chapter now, but to all the people who send me beautiful, kind, funny, and supportive messages, thank you very much.”
The Worst Publicity
In May this year, a “Harry Potter”-themed event at a New Zealand book festival was canceled and stars of his films, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Eddie Redmayne, spoke out against the comments from JK Rowling.
Some fans even declared her “dead” by sending #RIPJKRowling to the top of Twitter’s trending charts last September. Two major “Harry Potter” fan sites, such as “Leaky Cauldron” and “MuggleNet,” also said in a joint statement that Rowling’s personal views are at odds with the attitudes reflected in her best-selling books.
